About us

Our roots go back to 2007, when as a group of parents, we were bringing our own children to the Polish Club in Wolverhampton and the Polish Saturday school which operated there. It was our shared passion and a strong sense of duty that our children need to be able to communicate in their mother tongue; that the rich history and traditions of our homeland are preserved and cultivated and remain alive amongst young generation of Poles living in the UK and that they can represent their country with a sense of pride and dignity.

Together with Elzbieta Kardynal, Agnieszka Cyl, Monika Przybyl, and Zbigniew Pohl, and with the great support from Andrew Bonner, Julie Griffiths and Ken Yeates, in April 2009 we organised a meeting with Polish parents from Walsall area at the Blue Coat Comprehensive School. Our aim was to see what the level of interest was in setting up Polish supplementary school. The level of response we received was truly overwhelming and that is how Polish School in Walsall was born to life. In September 2009, the Polish School in Walsall began its first academic year, attracting almost 300 children aged 4 to 16.

For the first 2 years, the school operated at Blue Coat Comprehensive (now Blue Coat Academy). In late 2010, we moved to Joseph Leckie Academy where we stayed until 2019 until we were forced to relocate again. We found a new home at Health Futures UTC in West Bromwich. In 2022, we moved to Langley Primary School in Oldbury.

Over the last 15 years, we have worked with many talented and dedicated teachers, teaching assistants, volunteers, professionals and parents who have become an integral part of our school community. Currently, our team consist of approximately 70 people.

Over those years, we have worked with 200 staff and volunteers, with most of them staying in touch with us to this day. The number of children taught in our school exceeded 3000, which is our greatest success and testimony. Each academic year we focus on providing our children with the best learning experience that they deserve. The oldest year groups prepare for their GSCEs and A-Level exams. Our pass rate is 100% with 97% obtaining the highest grades (8/9 and A*).

What does a Polish school do?

The Polish School in Walsall is an integral part of the EWA CIC organisation. It is at its core and remains a strong pillar of all other services provided by EWA CIC.

Our School is defined as out of school setting (DfE). It is a supplementary school operating on a Saturday morning during the academic year where we teach Polish language with elements of Polish history and geography. We teach children aged 3 to 18. The youth in the oldest classes are prepared for their GSCE and Al Level Polish exams.

Beyond regular classroom activities, our students have the opportunity to explore culture, art, and maintain our rich traditions and customs through numerous extra curriculum activities, competitions, field trips, and educational events. Thanks to our commitment to maintaining national identity, encouraging students to actively participate in the cultural and social life of our national minority in the UK, and passing on positive role models – our students remain in contact with their families in Poland and proudly identify themselves as Polish.

The most important goal of our school is to educate future ambassadors of Poland beyond its borders; to prepare the young generation to execute their plans and fulfil their dreams while preserving values associated with their country of origin – Poland so they can carry this with them throughout their life.
